    Private W. Pearson, a clerk of Leichhardt, New South Wales enlisted aged 22 and embarked from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla, 1 May 1916 to serve as a stretcher bearer in the 9th Field Ambulance, 3rd Australian Division, 9th Brigade, A.I.F. He trained at Lark Hill, Salisbury Plains 9 July-14 Nov. 1916, and served in France and Belgium, 24 Nov. 1916-Nov. 1918. He was wounded in action, 2 Oct. 1917 and returned to Australia on HT Port Darwin, 12 June 1919
