  Private Keith James Mitchell, shop assistant of South Yarra, Melbourne was born in Prahan, Melbourne, enlisted aged 21, 11 Jan. 1915 and embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A31 Ajana, 4 June 1915. He served with the 6th Field Ambulance in Egypt, 8 May-2 Sept. 1915 and at the Dardanelles 3 Sept.-19 Dec. 1915. He was invalided to Australia 13 Mar. 1916, returning on HMTS Nestor. After a period of leave he again embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A54 Runic for France, 20 June 1916, serving in the 10th Field Ambulance until 1 Sept. 1918. He returned to Australia on the Armagh, 18 May 1919 and later served in Singapore during the 2nd World War
• Scope and Content
  Describes his duties as a stretcher bearer in dressing stations. The 1918 diary entries are written in the blank pages of a notebook previously used by a German soldier. Includes a typed transcript 8 May-19 Dec. 1915
