  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Robert Harris, a schoolteacher from Glen Innes, N.S.W. embarked from Sydney aged 20 on HMAT A35 Berrima, 19 Aug. 1914, and served with the Machine Gun Section, 2nd Battalion of the Australian Infantry Forces. He saw action in New Guinea, France and at Gallipoli. He was promoted to Lance Corporal 1 Oct. 1914, received officer training in England Oct. 1917-June 1918 and was attached to machine gun sections of the 9th, 11th and 12th Battalions. Harris was wounded Sept. 1918, recuperated in England and returned to France Dec. 1918. He returned to Australia on the Katoomba, Sept. 1919
