    Maurice Cann Evans, an agricultural student of Kyogle, New South Wales, was born in Budleigh Salterton, England. He enlisted at Victoria Barracks at the age of 19 in Aug. 1914 and embarked from Sydney on Transport A27 Southern, 23 Sept. 1914 to serve with the 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance in Egypt and Palestine until 31 Oct. 1918. He returned to Australia on S.S. Port Darwin, 24 Dec. 1918
