John Brooks, clerk of Parkside, South Australia embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A16 Port Melbourne, 23 Oct. 1916 and served with the 50th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement in France and Belgium until wounded on 24 April 1918. He returned to Australia 15 Sept. 1918
Scope and Content
Describes voyage to England on the Port Melbourne, Oct.-Dec. 1916, training at Codford Camp, Jan.-Aug. 1917 and trench warfare in France and Belgium Aug. 1917-Apr. 1918. Includes hospital treatment in England after losing a leg, May-Sept. 1918 and return to Australia aboard the Arawa, Sept.-Nov. 1918
