  • Collection History
The bulk of this collection was acquired by the Library in April 1933. The correspondence for 1931 and 1932 was acquired later - that for 1931 probably in May 1934 and that for 1932 probably in May 1935. In 1896 a fire at Angus & Robertson's Sydney shop destroyed many of the records then in existence. From ca. 1917, George Robertson began to assemble the records of A&R with the object of forming a collection which might be offered to the Mitchell Library. While he was involved in sorting and culling the records, Robertson took the opportunity of annotating particular documents. When the collection was received by the Library, it was separated into two parts. The bound volumes were assigned numbers preceded by "A" and "C", while the unbound material was given the call number MLMSS 314. This collection record covers the whole collection which Robertson himself formed, including both the bound and unbound material.
