  • General note

This painting had previously been attributed to Angas after comparison of the Aboriginal figures depicted with those in Angas' South Australia Illustrated, 1897.

The work has been extensively overpainted at an unknown date.

If by Angas, it is his only known work in oils. The palette used is darker than Angas' usual palette though this could be attributed to working in an unfamiliar medium. The form of the trees, and posture of the foreground figures are atypical of Angas' work. The painting lacks Angas' ethnographic detail and accuracy.
