In pencil on reverse: 'This old watercolour drawing of the River Hunter was found in the papers of the late David Berry, & was given to me by the Hon. Dr Norton, of Dover Heights [?] / Helena Forde / N.B. The pencil notes are in the artist's hand writing'
  • Attributions / conjectures

Through a mis-transcription of the inscription on the reverse of the watercolour, this work has been wrongly said to have belonged to Daniel Berry.

David Berry was a client of solicitor Dr James Norton. The artist of the watercolour remains unidentified. It bears some similarity to the work of Edward Close: see PXE 868 in this catalogue.
