“Martens painted several views of this property. The Cox brothers were early settlers in the Mudgee district and from 1828 held two other property Burrundulla and Brombee. The subject is probably Menah a neighbouring estate first granted to Captain Steel and acquired by Henry Cox in 1836 -- Painted Panorama / State Library
    of New South Wales, 1985, p. 62

“Martens visited the Mudgee district in Mar. 1840; these paintings derive from drawings made then. A commission of 14 Apr. 1840 for J.B. Montefiore `At Mudgee, Mount Frome’, relates to the pencil drawing PXC 971,f.3. George and Henry Cox were the fourth and fifth sons of William Cox of Fairlight and Clarendon, near Richmond and builder of Cox’s Road across the Blue Mountains. In 1828 they took up land grants, Burrundulla and Broombee in the Mudgee district. In 1836, Henry acquired Menah in the same area” -- Conrad Martens: life and art / Elizabeth Ellis, 1994, pg. 158-159
