    BETH DEAN AND VICTOR CARELL: RESEARCH - GENTLE GENIUS

    Austin Goldberg was awarded a special purpose award by the Australia Council Music Board to write a biography of composer John Antill (1904-1986). Goldberg had undertaken considerable research and had written some rough chapter drafts prior to his death on 23 May 1986. Beth Dean and Victor Carell completed the biography, based partly on Goldberg's research material (with annotations added by Dean and Carell and their notes interspersed throughout) and on their own further research. For preservation purposes, Goldberg's research notes and working papers have been removed from the ring binders in which he had filed them. The folders may include: correspondence (most between Goldberg and others, and Dean and Carell and others, but also including some original letters received by John Antill); research notebooks, interview notes and typescripts of interviews, lectures and radio programmes; photocopies of articles; programmes; newscuttings.
