  • General note

In 1887 Daplyn exhibited a painting at the Royal Art Society of NSW annual exhibition titled "The Boating Season, Woolloomoolo Bay": the catalogue notes it was offered for sale for 25 pounds. It is possible that this is that painting, as it appears to be set on the east side of Woolloomooloo Bay, looking up the bay towards Cremorne and Mosman on the north shore.
Donor, however, believed that the scene is said to show foundation members of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. This seems unlikely as the subject matter is very casual, rather than commemorative. Furthermore 19 men were involved in the estabslishment of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
When presented to the LIbrary in 1961 the painting was titled ""Boating Scene in Sydney Harbour"".
