  • General note

    Unsigned; undated.
    Artist unknown.

It is closely related to an aquatint titled "Charley" Spearing Kangaroo's which was published in Yarra-Guinea, ed., Frank Kennedy the Australian Settler, opp. p. 15 (Sydney: J.G. Grocott, 1847). This book includes illustrations said to be by "Tufts". The identity of Tufts is not known.

This work is also closely related to an oil painting attributed to Captain Otway, RN, titled `Charley' Spearing Kangaroos, held in the National Library of Australia. It is more likely that Otway, a naval officer stationed in New Zealand in 1846, owned that work, rather than actually painting it.
