    `Botany Bay Theatricals' being `Copy of A Botany Bay Play Bill shews to what a degree of refinement that settlement has already attained'. This is a newscutting of a playbill for the plays `The Busy Body' and `The Poor Soldier', performed in Sydney on Saturday, 23 July 1796. (MLMSS 7631 page 93)

    The playbill was published in the Oracle, 13 July 1797. This cutting may be from the Oracle. Copies of playbills were sent to England and reprinted, often a year after the event, as a means of informing the public in England of colonial activities in New South Wales. -- see R.
