    This relic is a set with the sextant and pair of parallel rules DR 11 & DR 13. A letter filed with DR 11 dated 19.4.1906, signed by EA Burney staes that he believed that Captain Cook gave these relics to his grandfather, Dr William Burney, the then headmaster and founder of the Royal Academy, Gosport. Dr William Burney (1762-1832) established his Academy, or school, in 1791.
