  Title based on entry in Conrad Martens' account book, 21 Jan 1840: ""View Sydney from Sandy Bay W. [Thomas?] Icely Esq. 15 [pounds].15.0"". Rose Bay was ""sometimes called Sandy Bay by Martens"", but ""Sandy (Rose) Bay does not appear on any nineteenth-century maps or charts of Port Jackson, and is not to be confused with another Sandy Bay, now called Athol Bay, near Taronga Zoo, on Reuss & Browne's Map of ...
