  Previously titled from a pencil inscription at upper right, "Native Companion of N.S.W.", though in a non-contemporaneous hand.
  
  The bird portrayed appears to be a jabiru [ie. black-necked stork] rather than a native companion (ie. brolga). Please refer to: "The waterbirds of Australia", North Ryde: Angus & Robertson, 1985, p. 91, 294
  
  On the reverse is a pencil inscription in a different hand from the one on the front of the work, "Jabiru / Sotheran Feb. 1938"
