  • General note

The work is signed at the lower right in pencil, "J.W. Lewin / 1819" in a later hand, probably twentieth century.
This drawing was formerly attributed to J.W. Lewin, however, the work bears stylistic similarities to Joseph Lycett who recorded several views of Parramatta. -- Manager, Original Materials, March 2005.
The title is repeated in pencil below frame lines in a former Library officer's hand, "J.W. Lewin Government House Parramatta 1819".
Across the back of the reverse is handwritten text in pencil that is difficult to read as well as the inscription, "Government House / by / J.W. Lewin [crossed out] / 1819" in a later hand.
Along upper edge of reverse in pencil, "For Rotunda Bot. Plate". The Rotunda was a former housing system used by the Mitchell Library.
Although titled as Government House, it is unlikely to be this official residence. Efforts to identify the house have been inconclusive.
