  Explorer William John Wills (1834-1861) joined the Victorian Exploring Expedition (known as the Burke and Wills Expedition) in August 1860.   Attributed to Hill after comparison with printed portraits based on a photograph by Hill cf. William John Wills c.1861, mezzotint engraving, `Phot.d by T.A. Hill Eng.d by H.S. Sadd' (P2/354) and E. Gilks' lithograph of Wills, 1861, 'from a photograph by Hill' (DG P2/24, P2/349).
  The Library also holds albumen photoprints which appear to be copies from the same and similar ambrotypes of Wills (P1/W, ZDL PXX3/f.2a). Also a watercolour on ivory miniature which appears to be based on the photograph in `William Strutt - a collection of drawings ... illustrating the Burke and Wills exploring expedition ... 1860-1861' (ZDL PXX3/cover/b)
