- Scope and ContentThe female in this portrait wears a check or tartan print silk dress that consists of a bell shaped skirt, a bodice with five horizontal bands decorated with applied trim of braid, ribbon, and fringe, three-quarter length sleeves with two rows of engageants (stepped flounces) finished in the same fashion as the rows across the bodice, undersleeves of muslin and broderie anglaise, and a white collar with Van Dyke points from which rectangular pieces of ribbon are attached and cross over at the front. Her jewellery consists of beads at the neckline and a [cameo] brooch.
