  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Thomas Sutcliffe Mort (1816-1878) arrived in Sydney in 1838, followed by his younger brothers Henry (1818-1900) and James (died 1879). An older brother, William, stayed in Manchester. In 1841 Mort married Theresa Shepheard Laidley, daughter of James Laidley,and they had seven children, Laidley James, Edward Montague, sometimes known as Ted, William Edye, Alice, who married George Atkinson-Wills, Annie, who married Bishop Selwyn, Robert Sutcliffe, and Ernest, known as Jack, who married Ida Agnes Bruce. Theresa Mort died in 1869. Mort married in 1874 Marianne Elizabeth Macauley, with whom he had two sons, Macauley, known as Max, and Guy Sylvian.
