  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Staff-Sergeant J. R. Liddle, a cashier, was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He enlisted at Liverpool, New South Wales, 1 Mar. 1915 aged 27 years, having previously served with No. 3 Auckland Native Rifles. He embarked from Sydney on board Transport A40 Ceramic, 25 June 1915 and served with 18th Battallion 5th Brigade in Gallipoli and France. He was wounded twice, at Gallipoli, 22 Aug. 1915 and in France, 5 Aug. 1916 and was on the staff of the musketry school at Tidworth in England Sept. 1917-Dec. 1918. He returned to Australia on the Burmah, 14 Dec. 1918
