  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Rachel Biddulph Taylor, nee Henning, 1826-1914, sailed for Australia August 1854 on the ship Calcutta, with her sister Amelia, later Mrs Thomas Sloman, to join their brother Edmund Biddulph (called Biddulph) and sister Annie, later Mrs George Hedgeland. She stayed in Sydney, and with Biddulph at his farms at Appin and on Bulli Mountain. In 1856 she went back to England, but in February 1861 returned to Australia on the ship Great Britain, stayed briefly in Sydney, lived with the Sloman family in Bathurst May 1861-March 1862 and from September 1862-September 1865 with Biddulph and Annie on the sheep run Exmoor, Kennedy County, Queensland. After her marriage to Deighton Taylor in Sydney, 24 January 1866, the Taylors lived in the Myall River district, at The Peach Trees, Stroud, 1867-1872, and Springfield near Fig Tree, N.S.W., 1873-1896

Thomas White Boyce, describing her daily life in England, on board ships Calcutta and Great Britain and from places in Australia including Appin, Sydney, Bathurst, N.S.W., Exmoor, Queensland, Myall River, Stroud and Fig Tree, N.S.W. Includes a letter from Annie Hedgeland to Amy, 1890
