    Cameron Desaile Robertson, bookseller of Rozelle, New South Wales was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 Aug. 1914 aged 19 years and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A19 Afric, 18 Oct. 1914. He served with the Australian Army Service Corps and the 4th Pioneer Battalion, was present at the landing at Gallipoli and also served in Egypt and France. He was awarded the Military Cross for actions during operations near Gueudecourt Nov.-Dec. 1916 and hospitalised in England with trench fever Jan. 1918. He returned to Australia on the Kasir-a-Hind, Oct. 1918
