    Private A. Brown, a labourer of Annandale, N.S.W., served with D. Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade in France and Belgium in 1916. He was wounded in August 1916, and repatriated to Australia and discharged from the army in Nov. 1917

    Describes voyage from Sydney to Alexandria on the Medic, Jan. - Feb. 1916, training in camps in Egypt Feb. 1916, journey by ship and train to Sailly, France, Mar. 1916, trench warfare at the Somme, Amiens, Pozieres and Albert Apr. - Aug. 1916, convalescence in various hospitals in England Aug. 1916 - July 1917, return voyage to Australia July -Sep. 1917.
    Entries up to July 1916, are in form of a retrospective account rewritten from an original diary and thereafter are in diary form
