  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sergeant A. R. Compton, coachsmith of Leichhardt, N.S.W. enlisted at Liverpool, N.S.W. aged 20 years, 15 Feb. 1915 and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A9 Shropshire, 17 Mar. 1915. He served with the 13th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement at Gallipoli and in France. On 11 Apr. 1917, he was captured by the Germans at Bullecourt, remaining a prisoner until repatriation in Dec. 1918. He returned to Australia on HT Khyber, 31 March 1919
