L. J. McKay, a plasterer of Waverley, New South Wales was born in Fitzroy, Melbourne and enlisted at Holdsworthy [i.e. Holsworthy], New South Wales in Aug. 1915 aged 18 years. He embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on board HMAT A28 Miltiades, 12 Feb. 1916 and served as a sapper in the 15th Field Engineers, in France and Belgium. He was wounded 30 Sept. 1918 and returned to Australia 11 Dec. 1918 - Scope and ContentDiary describes service in France and Belgium, 7 Aug. 1916 -1 Nov. 1917, leave in England, including boxing matches in which he was undefeated, and return to France 15 Oct. 1918
