    G. T. Birkbeck, a printer, of Croydon, New South Wales was born in Ashfield, Sydney and enlisted at Liverpool 30 June 1915. He embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A16 Star Of Victoria, 10 Sept. 1915 and served as a trooper of the 1st Australian Machine Gun Squadron, Anzac Mounted Division. He fought in the Gallipoli campaign, upper Egypt Senussi Campaign, Sinai peninsular and the Palestine campaign until 31 Jan. 1919 and was discharged 17 Aug. 1919
