Gunner Reginald Hewitt of the 11th Battery, 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment, was captured in the Libyan Desert on 8 April 1941. He spent the next three years as a prisoner of war, firstly of the Italians and then of the Germans. He was repatriated back to Australia in 1944. - Scope and ContentThe scrapbook includes: diary, 1941-1942; letters from Hewitt's wife, May, and daughter, Dorothy, 1941; letters to his wife, 1941-1944; official correspondence from the Australian Military and the Red Cross; paybooks; programs of concerts performed by prisoners of war together with song books and photographs.
