  • General note

Dated ca. 1905-1910. Hentsch's Bond Store (on the corner of Kent & Windmill Sts) behind and to the western side of the Lord Nelson Hotel (at right) was built in 1892. In 1903 it burnt out and was replaced by Oswald's bond store. It was reconstructed almost identically to the former except it was 1 floor shorter - the same height as shown in the photo (and now). Reconstruction finished around 1905. Behind the Kent St terraces there appears to be some construction work. This is possibly the re-alignment of Argyle Place, construction of High St and Hickson Rd which all occurred around or prior to 1910. -- Information supplied by reader, Aug 2004
