  • General note

    The Statue of Sir Richard Bourke, a popular Governor of NSW between 1831-1837, was unveiled in April 1842. At the ceremony Governor Gipps remarked that the view from the site - then at the top of the Botanic Gardens but since moved to in front of the Mitchell Library - was equal in beauty and loveliness to any other in the world.
    Peacock painted this view in a number of variations (see ML 239a)
