  • Source
This album was originally owned by Elizabeth Cook, Captain James Cook's wife. It passed from her to her executor, John Leach Bennett, to his children and other family members. The album was exhibited, with other Cook realia, in the Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886, lent by the Rev. Canon Bennett. At the time of the exhibition the NSW Government purchased much of the Cook items on display. They were held in the Australian Museum until October 1955, when the majority of this material, including this album, was transferred to the Mitchell Library.
