Jewish day schools are denominational schools which incorporate religious education into their teaching and are an important element in the preservation and continuation of Jewish education and culture. In 1942 the North Bondi Jewish Kindergarten was opened and later incorporated the North Bondi Jewish Day School. In 1949 the New South Wales Jewish Board of Education purchased land at Bondi Junction in order to establish a Jewish day school, Hillel College. In March 1952 Rabbi Rabinovitch of the North Bondi Jewish Day School arranged for the purchased of land at Bellevue Hill in order to expand the school. In 1953 Rabbi Rabinovitch and the New South Wales Jewish Board of Education came to an agreement whereby Moriah War Memorial College was established as a Jewish day school on the Bellevue Hill site and Hillel College was to be developed as a Jewish Kindergarten.
