  Dated 1845-1849, between the year that George Goodman took the daguerreotype on which this image was based, and the year it was possibly exhibited in Sydney in a Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts exhibition.
  This watercolour is unsigned but attributed to Read after comparison with other of his drawings. The drawing was copied from a daguerreotype taken by George Goodman in January 1845 (MIN 350). Another version of the image, a lithographic drawing by William Nicholas, was published in "Heads of the People" on 18 December 1847. At the 1849 Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts Exhibition in Sydney both Read and Nicholas exhibited portraits of Bland, and both were considered by the Sydney Morning Herald reviewer of 2 June 1849 to be 'staring likenesses, evidently daguerreotypish.'
