    The title is taken from a pencil inscription on the reverse in an unknown hand.

    The portrait is similar to an engraving of Governor Bourke, after a drawing by Richard Read, Junior, which was published as a title piece for the Australian Almanack, 1835

    Provenance of item derived from a list of material that was deposited with the National Art Gallery (Art Gallery of N.S.W.), prior to the Mitchell Library's opening in 1910.
