  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Henry E. White was a theatre designer during the 1900's to 1930's and worked on many commissions in Australia, New Zealand and throughout Asia. A style very popular at this time was the "Atmospheric theatre" of which the Capitol Theatre is an example.
  • Scope and Content
Architectural presentation plans in pen and watercolour and some draft plans in pencil. The majority of the drawings are of theatres, however a few examples of civic and commercial buildings are included in the collection. The collection also contains works such as the Palais theatre (St. Kilda, Melb) which represent the advances in structural engineering at that time. The Palais theatre is an example of a theatre built using steel frame construction before the method was superceded by reinforced concrete construction. The proposed buildings are located in Australia and New Zealand.
