Mary Johnson (nee Burton) was the wife of the Rev Richard Johnson, the first chaplain to the colony of New South Wales. They came to NSW with the First Fleet and returned to England in 1800. Henry Fricker of Portsmouth, England, was a friend of the Johnson family. - Scope and ContentAutograph letter signed by Mary Johnson, Port Jackson, 21 Dec 1795. The envelope is annotated 'came to hand Janry 17th 1797'. The letter refers to the morality of the convicts and gives the writer's opinion of recently appointed Governor John Hunter. She mentions the Aboriginal girl known as Booron or Abaroo, who lived with them for a time, and Bennelong, as well as her children Henry and Milbah. ;
