    Attributed to Fortescue Hitchins after comparison with a signed portrait of Maraina Smith (ML 684, Mitchell Library)
    Dated by age of children and before Hitchins moved to Maitland in ca. 1858 (see Joan Kerr ed., Dictionary of Australian Artists 1770-1870)
    This portrait was first sold with Mary Anne Samuell (ML 1190) at Lawsons 2 December 1986 lot 96. The two portraits came from Samuell family descendants
