  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Thomas Hassall (1794-1868), Anglican clergyman, was appointed to the parish of Cowpastures in 1827. The parish was extensive and originally included Goulburn. Thomas Hassall travelled widely throughout his parish which gradually reduced in size due to the establishment of new parishes. In 1826 Thomas Hassall acquired a property at Cobbitty which he named 'Denbigh'. He lived at 'Denbigh' until his death in 1868. Thomas Hassall is buried at St Paul's Church Cobbitty.
  • Scope and Content
    Appointment diaries of Thomas Hassall, being two small 'Letts's' diaries with daily manuscript entries recording appointments and visits by Thomas Hassall and includes mention of the Church in which he preached each Sunday. Entries are not detailed but include names of family members and parishioners visited by Thomas Hassall and meetings attended. Diaries provide an insight into his professional and family life on a daily basis.
