  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Kerwin Maegraith (1903-1970), black and white artist, caricaturist, cartoonist and writer, was born at Adelaide, South Australia. His drawings, cartoons and caricatures were widely published from the 1920s through to the 1960s. Maegraith was interested in cricket and in 1934, while in England, drew sporting caricatures of the Australian XI touring cricket team for London newspapers and magazines. In 1935 Maegraith wrote the words and lyrics of 'It Ain't Cricket', a musical revue, performed in Melbourne in 1935 and starring Don Bradman. He was also interested in surf lifesaving and flying. In his autbiographical memoir Maegraith recalls meetings with many well known people, both overseas and in Australia. Maegraith also wrote a biography of Florence Taylor, an architect, structural engineer, civil engineer and town planner.
