  • General note

    Wakelin painted the Sydney Harbour Bridge in several major works, including two from the late-1920s (now in the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Queensland Art Gallery (the latter sold at Sotheby's Fine Australian Paintings Sale, Melbourne, 22 August 1994, lot 120). A later work from a similar vantage point to 'Picnic at Ths Rocks' is dated 1958 and is in the Art Gallery of New South Wales (illus. in The Sydney Harbour Bridge 1932-1982: a golden anniversary celebration / Ursula Prunster. Sydney: Angus & Robertson in assoc. with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, 1982, no. 39, p. 79)
