Beneath plate is a title plaque, also fixed at each corner with tacks. - plate measures 4.8 x 4.9 cm; title plaque measures 2.5 x 6.2 cm; face of wooden support measures 12 x 7.4 cm - base measures 11.9 x 7.4. - highest height 2.8 cm, lowest .7 cm

  • General note

    Plate appears to be part of the Japanese Midget Submarine sunk in Sydney in May 1942
    A sheet of typed paper on Department of the Navy letterhead, and headed "Souvenir from Japanese Midget Submarine", accompanies this souvenir. It in part reads "This small Tally Plate was an Instruction Plate from an Electrical Instrument, which indicated in ampere-hours, the amount of energy expended by the main batteries of the Japanese Midget Submarine..." A translation of the plate then follows
