Isaac Nathan (1792-1864) was born in Canterbury, England, and educated at the Cambridge Academy. In 1814-1815, he collaborated with Lord Byron in the publication of "A selection of Hebrew melodies" with music arranged by Nathan and poetry by Byron. In 1815, Nathan met Sir Walter Scott in London and was honoured to receive a visit by Scott before the poet's return to Scotland. Nathan emigrated to Australia in 1841 and quickly dominated the Australian musical scene as a composer, teacher, organist and conductor. - Scope and ContentThis letter, written at No.7 Poland Street, London, reminds [Scott] of his kind offer of assistance and hopes that he will consent to write some original English poetry for a set of Polish songs which Nathan intends to "melodize" on the same plan as the Hebrew Melodies.
