    Inscribed in ink beneath image at left "Near Pennant Hills Wharf - Parramatta River"
    Inscribed in ink at lower right "My House F.G."
    Inscribed in pencil at lower right "1854"
    On the reverse of the drawing's mount is written in biro a description of its provenance. The drawing passed from Garling's widow to their son, then grandson and then to his widow, and from her to the donor of the drawing to the Mitchell Library
    A label stuck to mounting paper is inscribed "Given to my wife Betty by me R.W. Garling (Pat) / F Garling's home at Ermington". Around this inscription is some biographical information about Garling : it states that Garling occupied the home (built by Major Edmund Lockyer) between 1851 and 1854, and that it was adjacent to Ermington House
