- Collection historyThis Scott family miniature, and four others (MINs 352, 353, 354 & 356), were acquired from a presumed descendant of Rose Scott (provenance has not been traced). On the reverse of this miniature is an exhibition label, [National Art Gallery] Art Loan Exhibition, 1897, in which Miss Rose Scott is said to be the owner of five miniatures displayed in this exhibition - no's. 533-537.

Possibly Helenus Scott (b. 1802) - identity suggested by age of sitter ie. 18 in 1820 -- but could be his brothers Alexander Walker (b.1800), Robert (b.1799), David (b.1804) or his youngest brother Patrick - Attributions / conjectures
Attributed to the Misses Sharpes : miniature was exhibited by Rose Scott in the National Art Gallery Loan Exhibition of 1897 when it was said to be by "Miss Sharpe, 1820" ML ref. 042/P84. Two Miss Sharpes - Eliza (1796-1874) and Mary Anne (1802-1867) - were exhibiting in 1820 cf.
