  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Donald Maclurcan, OBE KCSG, 1918-1999. Known principally as an architect, designed St John's Episcopal Church at Dee Why, the Roseville Bridge, the Captain Cook Bridge, Nepean Bridge, Bargo Bridge and the Hawkesbury Bridge. He joined the Australian Army in World War II serving in the Middle East and New Guinea. He married Margaret Davis on May 10, 1942 in Sydney while on leave. He later joined architects Fowell and Mansfield, becoming governing director of Fowell Mansfield Jarvis & Maclurcan. This firm were responsible for designing the Eastern Suburbs railway, the Sydney County Council building and St Therese's Catholic Church at Beauty Point. Maclurcan officially served the Institution of Engineers, the Zoological Parks Board of NSW and the National Parks Advisory Committee of Architects. He was also President of the Ski Council for over a decade, an enthusiastic competition sailor and model ship maker.
